Trevor Phillips FICM
Trevor started with Lloyds Bank, then trained as a credit manager and was appointed Group Credit Manager of AMF International in 1968. In 1969 he obtained a distinction in the Dun & Bradstreet Credit Diploma. In 1972 he moved to Honeywell Computers and spent 4 years as Finance &
Administration Manager before joining the Galliford Group as Company Secretary responsible for credit and administration. In 1980 he decided to move South and change from gamekeeper to poacher in a newly created role as a
Director of Commercial Credit Consultants, a leading commercial debt collection and credit-reporting agency.
Through his continued involvement in the Institute of Credit Management he was subsequently headhunted in 1985 to join Infolink, the national consumer credit agency. During his 9 years there and
latterly at Equifax he rose to become Head of New Business with a team of experienced Senior Account Managers. He won the Brian Bailey Sales Award in 1987 for winning the TSB Bank Closed User Group contract, worth £3m. Joining Commercial Collection Services, the consumer debt recovery a
nd bailiff agency in Thornton Heath in 1995 as a Partner with specific responsibility for sales and marketing. Part of the brief was to sell services to Magistrates Courts so Trevor studied the law and was appointed as a bailiff in the Tunbridge Wells Court.
In 1998 Trevor, with the desire for independence, decided to establish Credit Professionals Ltd and accept a number of non-executive directorships including as a director at The Beaver Corporation (subsequently BCL Vision), a leader in credit management software for law firms and commercial credit managers, assisting in the preparation in their sale to I-Many.
Very experienced in all aspects of consumer and commercial credit management, the business has grown and now employs some of the leading lights in the industry. Trevor has the ability to
bring together people and services in a unique way and forge successful, strategic partnerships.
Amongst the non-executive directorships he has accepted over the years the longest running has been with Lovetts plc solicitors where he was appointed Director of Sales & Marketing in 1999.
Trevor has played a very active part in the industry throughout his business life. He was presented with the Special Award for Outstanding Services to the Credit Industry in April 1996.
He served as Treasurer, Vice Chairman and then National Chairman of The Institute of Credit Management between 1987 and 1993 and as Vice President between 1995 and 2003. After 26 years
on the Institute’s Council he retired in June 2003. He was appointed Honorary Lifetime Vice President in 2009.
A regular on the conference circuit, Trevor has chaired many of the major industry events during his career. He enjoys public speaking and has recently been in Singapore and Paris as a guest speaker.
A keen sportsman, Trevor raced cars successfully in numerous national Motor Sports Association events including the Credit Professionals Sports Car Championship,
which he won outright in 2002. He lives with his fiancée in Brighton.
